Street Preacher

This son of a preacher man has been taking his fire-and-brimstone sermon to the streets for more than half his life. Now he’s 7.

This short, simple Roanoke Times project introduces us to seven-year-old Samuel Boutwell, who has been preaching since age 3. We hear his passion and commitment as he emulates his father by sermonizing on the street.

Samuel’s mother narrates the audio-slideshow, and insists this work is her son’s choice. But one can’t help but wonder about the influence of “stage parents,” as Samuel seems to know many facts about hell for one so young.
