Leonardo, A Work of Art

Leonardo, A Work of Art

Outrageous fashion is the calling card for this Los Angeles hair designer. Just don't call them costumes. (LAT)

Insisting they’re not costumes, Leonardo Paul Aguilar’s clothing choices are like works of art. Explosions of color, theatrics, cosmetics and excitement are his outlets for self expression. Aguilar thrives on looking different everyday — accessorizing with hats, scarves, gloves, and boots and changing his hair and eye colors.

Aguilar says he feels like an artist as he transforms his customers in the southern California beauty salon where he works. Clearly his customers love him and are willing to experiment under his care. Who wouldn’t be inspired by his creativity and eccentric ever-changing wardrobe?

This fast-paced and cleverly-synchronized audio slideshow is part of the Los Angeles Times “Pop.u.LA.tion: Stories from the sidewalk” feature, an occasional online column celebrating the parade of characters who make L.A. their home.
