All That Jazz
It’s one of the most extensive jazz festivals in the country. For the ninth year in a row, musicians from around the world descend on Rochester, NY, for this annual 9-day festival of music. Top names like Gladys Knight, Jeff Beck and Herbie Hancock are some of this year’s headliners and more than 1,000 artists are slated to perform at the popular 2010 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival.
For the fifth year in a row the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle is producing daily audio slideshows from the festival. Focusing on a different band each day, photographers Will Yurman and Annette Lein produce on deadline a mini-documentary for each of the nine days of the festival.
The slideshows combine music, interviews and photos of lesser-known bands, including saxophone quartet “Brass Jaw,” the “Katie Thiroux Trio,” and the Tom Waits-influenced Russian group “Billy’s Band.”
In addition to the audio slideshows, The Democrat and Chronicle provides in-depth online coverage of the festival with daily stories, blogs and photo galleries.
